Port-Louis, Mauritius, May 17 (Infosplusgabon) - The government of Mauritius has set up a coronavirus (COVID-19) Solidarity Fund to provide support for persons and communities affected by the pandemic, an official source said on Sunday.
As at now, the Fund has received from various contributions an amount of Rs 126 million (654,000 USD $).
No disbursement from the fund has yet been made, according to Finance, Economic Planning and Development Minister Renganaden Padayachy.
He said the Fund would contribute to the financing of projects, programmes and schemes related to the COVID-19 and other related public health issues.
“It will help provide financial assistance to organisations and individuals affected during the curfew and the recovery period as well as strengthen the preparedness of the country in the face of such outbreaks,” Padayachy said.
