Tripoli, Libya, May 17 (Infosplusgabon) - At least six people were killed and six others wounded in new rocket attacks Saturday targeting a university hostel in the al-Farnaj neighborhood east of Tripoli, as the military escalation in the Libyan capital continued.

The media adviser to the ministry of health of the government of national accord (GNA), Amine al-Hachemi, said "the number of victims of the shells falling on the residence of the al-Farnaj university dormitory has risen to six dead and six injured".

Earlier Saturday, a spokesman for the Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Board, Osama Ali, announced that two people had been killed as a result of shells falling on the residence of an al-Farnaj university dormitory.

Military escalation has increased in recent weeks in Libya with the intensification of shell, rocket, and missile fire targeting residential areas in Tripoli, hospitals and the airport, killing and injuring civilians.

In addition, the Libyan army spokesman loyal to the government of national accord, Colonel Mohamed Ganounou, announced that the air force had targeted, with three airstrikes, the Al-Wattia airbase (west), during which a Russian air defense system "Pantzir" was destroyed.

Col. Ganunu said at a press briefing Saturday that the strikes also targeted three armed cars, including one carrying ammunition.

He stressed that "any fixed or mobile threat will be targeted and bombarded without exception", assuring that "there is no red line".
