Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, May 16  (Infosplusgabon) - The President of Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, on Friday welcomed the commitment of the defense and security forces in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic which has already reached 780 positive cases in the country with 51 deaths since the index case on 9 March.

"I salute the patriotic commitment of our soldiers, who stand on to protect the Burkinabè people from the Covid-19, and to preserve our lives. I pay tribute to these men and women of our army, mobilized on various fronts: contribution to patient care, making and certification of masks, production of hydro-alcoholic gel and liquid soap, burial of victims, " wrote Mr. Kaboré in a message published by his communications office.

"I say my pride and that of the Nation, to see our brothers and sisters who have chosen the military profession, to invest in this fight, in addition to the fight against terrorism," he added.

Burkina Faso has eased the restrictive measures taken to fight against the coronavirus, due to the decrease in the epidemiological curve.

The interim pandemic response coordinator, Dr. Brice Bicaba, told a press briefing on Friday that the positivity rate is decreasing although the number of tests is increasing. The number of deaths is also decreasing while the average age of the deceased is 64 years.

"We are working to increase the number of cases to be screened to be sure of the figures. We are working to control and eradicate the pandemic," he said.
