Tripoli, Libya, May 16  (Infosplusgabon) - With the resumption of public power supply to a flow station, the pumping of drinking water from the artificial river supplying drinking water to the western region of the country, including the capital, Tripoli, resumed on Saturday.

The Libyan General Electric Company reported that the return of drinking water to the areas follows the flow of water to station No. 1 of the river.

In a statement published on its website, the Libyan General Electric Company specified that "the return of electricity was the result of the intensive contacts between the company and people of good will".

The Artificial River Management Authority confirmed last Saturday that "this water pumping station was attacked by a group of outlaws, which caused the low flow and the interruption of the drinking water in most areas of Tripoli."

On Friday, electricity was cut in the western and southern regions, causing the shutdown of wells and pumping stations for the supply of water from the artificial river.

Drinking water supply network drawn from the water tables at the bottom of the Libyan desert, the artificial river drains via giant aquaducts extending over millions of km, water is now supplied to the West of the country where urban centres and large agricultural areas are located.

But since the revolution, the infrastructure of the artificial river has been degraded due to the fighting and deliberate destruction by armed groups or individuals.

The interruption of water supply is a war strategy in Libya.
