Burundi Football Federation announces resumption of competitions from May 23

Bujumbura, Burundi, May 16 (Infosplusgabon) - Burundi's football Leagues A and B championships, as well as the last matches in the President's Cup for the 2019-2020 season, will resume from May 23, more than a month after their suspension, officially due to electoral preparations, Infosplusgabon learned on Saturday from the Burundi Football Federation (FFB).

 

The remaining matches are in semi-finals and the final of the President's Cup, those of Days 28, 29 and 30 of Leagues A and B.

 

The President's Cup semi-final first leg matches are scheduled for Saturday, May 23, and Tuesday, May 26. The semi finals are scheduled for between June 6 and 7; and the final, on Saturday, June 13.

 

The matches of the Day 28 of League A are scheduled for between May 30 and 31; those of Days 29 and 30 respectively from June 20 to 21 and from 27 to 28.

 

During the period of suspension of competitions, players were instructed to remain confined to their homes to avoid the risk of contaminating Coronavirus (COVID-19).

 

The officially confirmed cases of COVID-19 stand at 27 in Burundi where it took pressure from international football authorities to close the stadiums.

 

Preventive measures against the virus on the stadiums prohibited the celebration of goals scored. The players, spectators, technical staff and referees also had to take the temperature, wash their hands at the entrance to the stadiums.

 

In other industries, markets, public transportation, places of recreation and worship, schools, and other universities remain open to the public.

 

The Burundian authorities have also maintained this year's general elections, which are expected to involve more than five million voters.
