Coronavirus: Nigeria records 288 new cases, total rises to 5,445

Abuja, Nigeria, May 16 (Infosplusgabon) – Nigeria has recorded 288 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 5,445.

 

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said on Friday night that in the last 24 hours, four new COVID-19 patients died, bringing the total number of deaths to 171.

 

Of the 5,445 confirmed cases, 3,959 are active while 1,320 patients have been treated and discharged.

 

All the infections, deaths and discharge were from the nation’s 34 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

 

The 288 new cases were reported from 15 States, namely, Lagos (179), Kaduna (20), Katsina (15), Jigawa (15), Borno (13), Ogun (11), Kano (8), FCT (7), Niger (4), Ekiti (4), Oyo (3), Delta (3), Bauchi (3), Kwara (2) and Edo (1).

 

The NCDC also urged Nigerians to remember that there is no specific cure for COVID-19 as clinical trials are ongoing to assess the safety and the efficacy of drug and vaccine candidates for public use.
