Alpha Condé pleads for "total war" against Covid-19 in Guinea

Conakry, Guinea, May 16  (Infosplusgabon) - The Guinean president, Alpha Condé, Friday announced his satisfaction with the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) which, he said, had claimed the lives of only 15 Guineans since the detection of the first case on 12 March.

 

Satisfied with the efforts made by doctors, he announced in a televised address new measures against the disease.

 

He announced the arrival shortly of a Cuban medical mission to help their Guinean counterparts to carry on the fight against the pandemic.

 

The Guinean president said that shortly, the doctors would carry out 1,000 tests per day, thanks to performing materials in the country.

 

Actually, the national health security agency (ANSS) carries out less than 500 tests per day.

 

President Condé urged his compatriots for understanding and discipline, before reminding them that the capital, Conakry, had become the epicenter of the disease.

 

Since the first case of COVID-19, ANSS has diagnosed about 3,200 positive cases as against some 800 cured patients.

 

After the vote of the bill in the morning by the new parliament, President Condé announced the extension of the state of emergency decreed on 26 March until 15 June.

 

The curfew will from now on be observed from 22h to 5h, as against the previous 21h to 6 hours.

 

Initially set for 20 persons, the groupings can now reach 100 during ceremonies.

 

The Guinean president underlined that humanitarian flights would be organised to repatriate Guineans residing abroad and who would like to return home.
