COVID-19: Mauritania experiences Increase of coronavirus infections

Nouakchott, Mauritania, May 15 (Infosplusgabon) - Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections in Mauritania have  suddenly accelerated, with 26 cases confirmed as  positive, 17 of which were reported on Wednesday and Friday, observers noted.

Of the confirmed cases, 16 are located in Nouakchott.

An additional cause for concern was that one of the infections in the past few hours is located in the city of Kiffa, 600 km east of Nouakchott.

Among the cases that tested positive on Friday was the wife of a senior health ministry official, who has been in contact with the minister.

The minister, Mohamed Nedhiri Ould Hamid, has announced his self-isolation.

In the meantime, the authorities have again suspended the Friday collective prayer.

Speaking at the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday, President Mohamed Sheikh El Ghazouani emphasised "strengthening of the monitoring and prevention system.
