Nouakchott, Mauritania, May 13 (Infosplusgabon) - Citing a vast program of acquisition, redeployment of equipment, repair of generators in Nouakchott and other localities across the country, the Mauritanian Electricity Company (SOMELEC-public) on Wednesday announced the end of all load-shedding of power.
In a document transmitted on Wednesday to Infosplusgabon, SOMELEC said the development followed "a significant increase in the demand for energy consumption, the result of a combination of several factors: a ban on inter-regional travel reducing families to confinement at home, free energy for two months, and increased consumption during the month of Ramadan".
It said "there was a general overhaul of 7 units of 11 MW each at the Nouakchott power station, 2 units of 5.5 MW were installed and put into operation in Nouadhibou (North), 2 units installed in Nema (East) and units of different capacities newly installed in about ten other localities".
