Tripoli, Libya,  May 13  (Infosplusgabon) - The Interior Minister of the government of national accord, Fathi Bachagha, on Wednesday discussed illegal immigration at a meeting in the capital, Tripoli, with the president and members of the Italian Presidential Council.

Bachagha stressed, during the meeting attended by a number of security officials, the "need to pay close attention to the issue of illegal immigration, as this is one of the important issues confronting Libya", the ministry for the Interior said on its website.

He said "the two countries agreed that illegal immigration and its limitation are serious problems threatening their national security."

Bachagha also "heard the explanations of the Italian delegation on the latest developments and the cooperation mechanism between the two countries in this regard".

For his part, the head of the body fighting illegal immigration, Col.-Maj. Mabrouk Abdelhafidh, explained that "accommodation centers for migrants need financial and logistical support, while these centers should be located outside residential cities."

The meeting comes after the meeting on Tuesday which brought together Bachagha and the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Puccino, to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and the implications of the issue of illegal immigration and its impact on the stability of the two countries, in addition to the evolution of the war in the capital."

Libya, a country that hosts and acts as transit centre of migrants, has faced a significant flow of migrants in recent years as the country faces insecurity.

This situation was exacerbated by the Tripoli war, with nearly 800,000 migrants in accommodation centers.
