Tunis, Tunisia, May 13 (Infosplusgabon) - Tunisian President Kaïs Saied, on Wednesday slashed the curfew period in force since 18 March in Tunisia, imposed to stop the spread of the Coronavirus.

According to a statement by the Presidency, the new curfew period will run from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., four hours less than the original schedule of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The new development took effect from Wednesday.

On Tuesday, President Saied discussed this issue with Prime Minister Elyes Fakhfakh, who called for a gradual resumption of economic activity that had been virtually paralyzed by the pandemic.

The easing of the curfew comes at a time when Tunisia has recorded no new cases of contamination for the third consecutive day.

Despite the "success" of the strategy implemented in the fight against Covid-19, the Minister of Health, Abdellatif Mekki, believes that vigilance must always be required, calling on citizens to continue to comply with the rules enacted by his department, particularly with regard to the observation of physical distancing, the wearing of masks, the use of hydroalcoholic gel and washing of hands, several times a day, with soap.
