Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, May 12 (Infosplusgabon) - Mahamat Saleh Annadif, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Burkina Faso, has condemned Sunday's attacks that killed three peacekeepers from Chad and seriously injured four others.

"The Secretary-General recalls that attacks on United Nations peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law," said Annadif in a press statement issued on Sunday evening.

These peacekeepers are "dead in the service of peace in Mali", recalled the Annadif, who also firmly condemned "the cowardly acts which aim to paralyze MINUSMA field operations and indiscriminately touching United Nations personnel and innocent civilians."

Guterres called on the Malian authorities to make every effort to identify the perpetrators of the attacks so that they can be brought to justice quickly.

"We will have to combine all efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for these terrorist acts so that they can answer for their crimes in justice," said Annadif, who is also the head of MINUSMA.

"The Secretary-General reaffirms that such cowardly acts will not dissuade the United Nations from its determination to continue to support the people and the government of Mali in their quest for peace and stability," he added.

He said Mr. Guterres and the entire United Nations system in Mali offered their sincere condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of Chad. They wished the injured a speedy recovery.
