Niamey, Niger, May 12 (Infosplusgabon) - Niger's Minister of Higher Education, Yahouza Sadissou, announced Tuesday at a press conference the reopening of schools from June 1 until July 15, 2020 to finalize the programmes.

Mr. Sadissou recalled that the government, after consultation with the committee of experts, has decided to resume academic activities in all schools, training and higher education institutions, public and private, on June 1, 2020, if the trend is favorable to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

The minister indicated that at the time when schools were closed, the rate of programme implementation in educational institutions, outside universities, varied between 50 and 75%, depending on whether they are public or private.

"After various evaluations, we will need 45 days to finalize the year's programme. So the courses will run from June 1 to July 15, 2020. After that, the end of year exams, the BEPC, the baccalauréat, the BTS, etc. will take place. The precise dates for these exams will be communicated at a later date", he said.

Mr. Sadissou said that exchanges will be initiated very soon between various ministries and stakeholders in schools so that "everyone adheres to this rescue plan that will validate the current year."

At the same time, he outlined the programme for the 2020-2021 academic year, stressing that the start of the year will take place on 15 September 2020 for the upper secondary cycle, 1 October for the lower secondary cycle (primary and vocational and technical training) and 1 January 2021 for public universities and colleges.
