Coronavirus: Morocco confirmed cases up by 153 to 6,063

Rabat, Morocco, May 11 (Infosplusgabon) - Morocco's Ministry of Health announced on Sunday that 153 new cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in the country, bringing the total number to 6,063.

 

Meanwhile, 93 new recoveries have been recorded, bringing the total number to 2,554, Mohamed El Youbi, Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control at the Ministry of Health, said at the daily press briefing on the pandemic situation.

 

According to him, the recovery rate went up slightly to 42.1 per cent.

 

Two new deaths were recorded, bringing the total number to 188, he said, noting that the mortality rate has remained stable at 3.1 per cent.

 

He said 540 children under the age of 14 years have been infected, a rate of nine per cent. Mr. El Youbi said that more than 93 per cent of these children had mild symptoms or no symptoms, while cases in critical health did not exceed 1.3 per cent.

 

A 17-month-old child who suffered from several diseases including growth disorders and kidney problems has died.

 

Regarding the geographical distribution, Mr. El Youbi said that the Casablanca-Settat region still had the highest number of confirmed cases with a rate of 27 per cent, followed by Marrakech-Safi with 20 per cent.
