Coronavirus: Two recovered patients test positive again in Rwanda

Kigali, Rwanda, May 9  (Infosplusgabon) - Two COVID-19 patients, who were recently discharged from hospitals, have tested positive again as of Friday evening, raising the total count to 273, the health ministry said in a statement obtained Saturday  in Kigali.

The ministry said three more patients have been discharged from hospital bringing the total recovered cases to 136.

For now, the most likely explanation of why people are retesting positive seems to be that the test is picking up remnants of the virus.

There are other scientist theories for why patients may be retesting positive: there might be an error with the test, or the virus could have been reactivated.

Earlier this month, Rwanda witnessed a huge spike in coronavirus cases among cross-border truck drivers from neighboring Tanzania.

Following the outbreak, Rwandan Government issued several measures aimed at curbing the virus, including extending customs cargo clearance at border posts, particularly at the entry points of Rusumo (South East) and Kagitumba borders in North East.

Following the new directive, Rwandan ministry of Infrastructure has asked all cargo owners and transporters who wish to travel to submit their vehicle details in order to be facilitated to easily move.

In addition, the new guidelines to manage truck drivers imply that truck owners should at least have at least two drivers per vehicle (one from Tanzania and another from Rwanda).
