Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, May 9  (Infosplusgabon) - The Burkina Faso Movement for Human and Peoples' Rights (MBDHP), which on Wednesday demanded light to be shed on the death of a detainee at a gendarmerie post on 2 May, has listed "many cases of enforced disappearances in Ouagadougou".

On May 2, 2020, the MBDHP said it learned with deep sadness, the death of Issouf Diallo, a teacher by profession, in the premises of the Nongr-Maasom Gendarmerie City Brigade in Ouagadougou.

In a statement, the MBDHP said that since the beginning of this year, 2020, there has been many cases of enforced disappearances in Ouagadougou.

These include the cases of Issiaka Tall, Hamidou Tall and Yaya Tall, all three arrested on 20 January 2020, at their homes in the Rimkiéta district, and Salam Dicko, arrested on 31 December, 2019, at his workplace in Kossodo, by alleged elements of the defence and security forces who presented themselves as belonging to the national gendarmerie, it said.

The Movement "notes that these serious abuses, unfortunately, reflect a dangerous disregard for the guarantees and protections afforded to all persons under the jurisdiction of the courts, including the presumption of innocence, the prohibition of torture and inhuman treatment and respect for the inherent dignity of the human person".

It calls on the judicial police to strictly comply with the regulations on custody and protection of citizens, especially in the current national context, which is already very critical in terms of human security.

The MBDHP urges the government to assume its obligations in relation to the national and international texts to which Burkina Faso has freely subscribed regarding the treatment of persons deprived of their freedom.
