Brazzaville, Congo, May 9 (Infosplusgabon) - The Congolese Foundation for Medical Research, headed by Prof. Francine Ntoumi, announced on Wednesday in Brazzaville, the production of plastic face masks that protect the face to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

A visor or face mask protects the face of its wearer against droplets of saliva emitted by a person nearby by coughing and sneezing or sputtering.

The protective instrument that is manufactured at the Congolese laboratory for medical research in Brazzaville is important for the whole population and particularly for the nursing staff and traders in state-owned markets.

The 3D printing equipment installed in this laboratory makes it possible to produce about 50 masks every day. The rigid materials used include plastics that are found locally and other necessary materials that must be imported from Europe," explained Prof. Ntoumi, during a visit to the laboratory by the Congolese Minister of Scientific Research and Technological Innovation, Martin Parfait Aime Coussoud-Mavoungou.

Coussoud-Mavoungou's visit is to ensure that the materials required for the manufacture of visor masks are made available to the laboratory by the public authorities.

Scientists agree that visor masks protect the eyes and face from droplets emitted directly by a person, but they do not have the respiratory protection effectiveness of the FFP2 masks currently in use, which protect the respiratory tract, particularly the mouth and nose. The wish is therefore that the visor mask is used alongside the FFP2 mask.
