Tripoli, Libya, May 4 (Infosplusgabon) - The Director-General of the National Centre for Disease Control, Badreddine al-Najjar, has stressed that the epidemiological situation of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) in the country is "good".

He also said that "specific measures" have been taken to receive citizens stranded abroad, to ensure that there are no carriers of the disease among them.

The Libyan authorities are working to repatriate 15,000 nationals stranded abroad.

In a statement on Monday, Mr. al-Najjar said that the existence of coronavirus-infected patients among the returnees would affect the epidemiological situation and cause a problem.

"It has therefore been decided to subject to quarantine persons stranded abroad for a 14-day period, with the first day of taking a smear to detect the virus using the PCR device, then another smear at the end of the period."

He revealed the preparation of a safety and protection guide for air crews in contact with stranded passengers during return flights, indicating that when citizens arrive at the airport, they will not perform further tests, but the thermal imaging camera will be used to ensure that their temperature is normal.

The Director of the Centre for Disease Control explained that returnees will receive a form that they will fill out with their personal data, contact numbers and addresses.

He indicated that it is preferable for them to remain in house confinement, advising them not to mix with the elderly or those with chronic illnesses for a period of time.

The National Centre for Disease Control has announced that no emerging coronavirus infections have been recorded in the past 24 hours.

It added, in a statement, that the results of 47 samples that have been analysed, are all negative.

Thus, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 infections is 63, of which have 22 recovered and three have died.
