Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, May  3 (Infosplusgabon) - Eritrean President Isaias Afewerki arrived in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa early on Sunday for an official which focuses on “deepening bilateral cooperation”, the official Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) reported.

It said President Isaias was met on arrival at Bole International Airport by his host, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other senior government officials.

His entourage includes Foreign Affairs minister Osman Saleh and presidential advisor Yemane Gebreab.

According to ENA, the two leaders would discuss ways of strengthening the efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and desert locust infestation, which has become a regional threat to food security and agriculture in the East African region.

“The leaders are also anticipated to discuss bilateral and regional cooperation,” Eritrea’s Minister of Information, Yemane Gebremeskel twitted.

Ethio-Eritrea rapprochement has ended a two decade border conflict between the neighbouring countries to enable a welcome diplomatic relationship.

In 1998-2000, Ethiopia and Eritrea fought a bloody war in which an estimated 70,000 lives were lost on both sides.
