Coronavirus: Mosques reopen in Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, May 3  (Infosplusgabon) - After the markets, it is the turn of mosques to welcome Muslim worshippers in Burkina Faso from Saturday, the Federation of Islamic Associations of Burkina (FAIB) announced.

 

"In response to the letter of the FAIB of  April 20, 2020, the Minister in charge of Worship authorized (May 2, 2020), the reopening of places of worship.

 

Consequently, the FAIB announced the reopening of mosques throughout the country, said a statement from the umbrella organization signed by its president El Hadi Boubacar Yugo.

 

The reopening of mosques must be done in strict compliance with the control measures  enacted by the WAIBF in a previous communiqué. These include regular disinfection of the mosques, washing, and disinfection of hands before entering the mosque, taking temperature by thermo flash at the entrance of the mosques, and the mandatory wearing of masks or nose masks.

 

Places of worship had been closed to combat the spread of Coronavirus disease. Since 9 March 2020, 652 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed, including 260 women and 392 men. The country has recorded 44 deaths, 535 cured and 73 active cases under treatment.

 

Over the past few days, Burkina Faso has recorded a considerable drop in the number of positive cases of coronavirus disease.

 

According to the authorities, the country has reached its peak since the week of 6-12 April. They have called on the population to be vigilant and to apply hygiene measures.

 

Schools are due to open gradually from 11 May.
