Tunis, Tunisia, May 3 (Infosplusgabon) - Press workers in Tunisia currently face huge difficulties due to the spread of the new coronavirus (Covid-19), including late payment of salaries, reduction of salaries and breach of contracts, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the Tunisian General Federation of Information (FGTI).
Crises have been noted in several communication structures including those of the print and electronic media, some companies have closed and to a lesser extent the audiovisual media, the statement said.
The Tunisian print media, in addition to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, is also a victim of negligence of various successive governments, including that of Elyes Fakhfakh currently in power, deplored the text.
It warned against attempts by some to create an audiovisual landscape under the tutelage of lobbies and at the service of political agendas and defending particular interests far from the concerns of citizens.
There can be no free and independent national information if precarious working conditions persist in the sector, stressed the text of the Tunisian General Federation of Information affiliated to the Tunisian General Labour Union.
