Bamako, Mali, May 2 (Infosplusgabon) – There have been organized protests by the youth in Bamako and other localities in Mali since the announcement Friday of the final results of the legislative elections.

The Rassemblement Pour le Mali (RPM) won the polls with 51 deputies out of 147 in the national assembly, Infosplusgabon learned from reliable sources.

The protesters believe that the presidential party was favored over several others in winning eight deputies at the hearing of the Constitutional Court, following complaints they considered unfounded.

The court allocated eight additional seats to the RPM in addition to the 43 that it already had.

With this score, the presidential party wins these elections but without obtaining an absolute majority.

Behind the RPM, the Alliance for Democracy in Mali (ADEMA), party of the presidential movement, ranks second with 23 deputies, followed by the Union for the Republic and Democracy (URD, opposition) with 19 deputies.

Seventeen other political parties and two associations share the rest of the seats.

According to an official source, the new national assembly, which corresponds to the sixth legislature, takes office from Saturday, May 2, 2020.
