Coronavirus: Guinea-Bissau registers 52 new cases including the prime minister

Ziguinchor, Senegal, May 2  (Infosplusgabon) - Guinea-Bissau has registered 52 new positive cases of coronavirus, including the country's prime minister, Nuno Na Biam, and Minister of Health Antonio Deuna, the Guinea-Bissau health services announced here Friday.

According to Tumane Baldé, spokesperson for the Emergency Health Center which coordinates the fight against the coronavirus, of the 94 blood samples tested, 52 returned positive, among them 38 men and 14 women.

He indicated that, to date, Guinea-Bissau has registered a total of 257 people affected by COVID-19 since the arrival of the virus in the country, with 19 cured and one death.

He specified that all the 52 new cases lived in the city of Bissau and that they were all contact cases which had been transmitted by only the person who had died in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

Regarding the minister of health, who is one of the new positive cases, he reveals that he was confined to a hotel in Bissau and was under treatment.

The minister of Public Health, António Deuna, tested positive for COVID-19; and is confined to one of the hotels in Bissau and is being treated.

“I inform you that his condition is stable, '' he said.

Prime Minister Nuno Na Biam has also tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently on treatment.

There were also reports of three other ministers, including the minister of the Interior, who tested positive, bringing the number of ministers who had tested positive to four.

The situation gives rise to speculations among the population that in the event of the spread of the pandemic, it will be a disaster, as the country does not have adequate health infrastructure capable of coping with it.
