Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, May 1  (Infosplusgabon) - Burkina Faso reached its peak of infections of the new coronavirus during the week 6-12 April, with 151 cases, Dr. Brice Bicaba, Acting National Coordinator of the response to the Coronavirus pandemic, said at a press briefing on Friday.

"The evolution of the epidemiological curve as of today suggests a downward trend in the number of cases," Dr. Bicaba said.

He pointed out that in week 11, that is to say, the week from 6 to 12 March, the country registered 15 cases. In week 12 it had 84 cases; week 13, 147 cases; week 14, 118 cases; week 15, 151 cases; week 16, 76 cases; week 17, 54 cases; week 18 currently 6 cases.

"It appears that we peaked at week 15, in the week of 6-12 April 2020," explained Mr. Bicaba.

The cumulative number of confirmed cases as of 1 May is 649 with 43 deaths, while nine out of 13 regions have been affected as of 30 April.

"We must remain vigilant to avoid a rebound. The measures enacted must be scrupulously respected in order to save our lives," he advocated.

In the coming weeks, Burkina Faso will expand screening, testing of vulnerable people, monitoring in the affected regions to see the difficulties they face in caring for those infected, promised Dr. Bicaba.
