Dean of Malian press dies

Bamako, Mali,  April 30 (Infosplusgabon) - Aïssata Cissé, dean of the Malian press, died on Thursday in Bamako at the age of 72, Infosplusgabon learned from her family.

 

Cissé, who worked at Mali Radio and Television Broadcasting Office (ORTM), began her career at Radio Sudan at a very young age in 1959.

 

Dedicated to the task and talented, her great professional qualities went beyond the borders of Mali.

 

A lady with a captivating voice, Aïssata was unique in her presentation.

 

During the ceremony for her retirement on 19 April, 2007, the director general of ORTM at the time, Sidiki N'Fa Konaté, said: "Aïssata is a real travelling library and a living witness to the history of the media in Mali". He added: "Aïssata is a fighter who paved the way for the promotion of women in the media in Mali."

 

After 45 years of service for her country, the authorities awarded her the Medal of Officer of the National Order.
