Nairobi, Kenya, April 25 (Infosplusgabon)- The Kenyan authorities on Saturday extended the ongoing curfew and containment in a bid to contain the spread of the deadly COVID 19 pandemic for another 21 days.

President Uhuru Kenyatta told the nation that the government is extending the nationwide dusk to dawn curfew and the containment in four counties worst hit by the pandemic - Nairobi Metropolitan Area, Marsabit, Kilifi, Kwale and Mombasa.

Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale are situated along the coast of the Indian Ocean, while Mandera in north eastern Kenya, straddles the border of Ethiopia and Somalia.

Nairobi, Kenya's capital, is in central part of the country.

The government has slapped containment measures on the four counties, banning movements in and out.

Only vehicles ferrying food and/or providing essential goods or services are allowed to enter or leave the counties.

In Mandera, Kenyatta said the government is putting in place tough CODIV 19 measures, bearing in mind that its a border area.

Out of Kenya's 47 counties, Nairobi leads, with the number of coronavirus cases.

Kenyatta called on Kenyans to continue observing social distancing, handwashing and other measures put in place by the government to fight the pandemic.

By Saturday afternoon there were 336 confirmed cases of the disease, 14 deaths, 228 active cases and 94 recoveries.
