Coronavirus: Benin receives 1.4 billion CFAF, medical equipment to contain virus

Cotonou, Benin, April 20 (Infosplusgabon) – Benin has received more than 1.4 billion CFAF in financial donations and important health equipment in its response to COVID-19 (coronavirus), according to a report posted on Sunday on the government’s website. (US$1=CFAF 600.00).

 

The report said individuals and organisations have shown solidarity in the fight against the pandemic through financial donations and medical equipment.

 

Benin recorded its first case of on 16 March and has so far 35 confirmed cases, with 18 cured, 16 under treatment and one death.

 

"Out of a total of 35 infected cases in Benin, 32 are imported cases and three got infection from imported cases. Out of 1,138 persons in quarantine or self-isolation who have been screened, 1,115 have tested negative," said the report.

 

In order to limit the spread of the coronavirus, the government has decided to undertake systematic screening of all persons placed in quarantine or self-isolation.

 

In addition, a health cordon has been thrown around high-risk communes and their number has risen from 8 at the beginning  to 15.

 

The wearing of masks is obligatory as the closure of places of worship has been extended to 10 May.
