Rwanda extends national lockdown till April 30

Kigali, Rwanda, April 19 (Infosplusgabon) - Rwandan Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente announced here Saturday an extension of the country’s lockdown till April 30 to check the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

 

According to an official statement, the initial two-week lockdown was meant to end on Sunday.

 

The total number of cases of coronavirus in the country surged past the 138 mark over the weekend to ensure that the gains achieved in containing the spread are not erased.

 

Reports by health officials indicate that a total of 60 Coronavirus patients have been discharged so far. “Farmers will continue preparation for the ongoing agricultural season B while observing the guidelines from health authorities,” the statement said.

 

“Schools and higher education institutions (both public and private) will remain closed and are encouraged to use technology to continue instruction,” continued the statement.

 

Cabinet urged employees of both public and private institutions to continue using technology to work from home with the exception of those working in essential services.
