Tripoli, Libya, April 15 (Infosplusgabon) - Director General of the Libyan National Center for Disease Control, Dr. Badreddine al-Najjar, said on Wednesday that he was concerned about increased infections from contact cases after the recording of nine new cases of coronavirus on Tuesday, eight of which were infected by patients.

He called  for the immediate strengthening of preventive measures against the pandemic.

According to him, the slackening of preventive measures after the reduction of the curfew time and the return of crowds at 2 p.m. is a cause for concern.

The Libyan Center for Disease Control announced Tuesday nine new coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of cases registered in the country to 35, including 9 recoveries and one death.

"We do not want to enter into the same scenario as Italy, France and the United States, because of the neglect of preventive measures and the fear for the economy, which made them pay the high price in terms of deaths," warned Dr. al-Najjar.

He noted that neighboring countries followed strict precautionary measures, which prevented the spread of the disease significantly.

He said that the epidemiological pattern, particularly in Algeria, in terms of mortality rate which reached 15 pc, is a model through which all countries of the world have passed.

Dr al-Najjar also stressed that southern Libya has become a source of danger after the registration of 600 cases in Niger with which there is a common border, adding that there are cases from immigration that threaten to spread the disease to this region.
