Tunis, Tunisia, April 12 (Infosplusgabon) - A Tunisian medical team was sent to Italy on Saturday to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic that has particularly affected this European country.

This mission follows the recent telephone discussion between Tunisian President Kaïs Saied, and his Italian counterpart, Sergio Mattarella, during which the Tunisian head of state offered to send doctors to help their Italian counterparts despite the modest means available to Tunisia, according to a press release from the Tunisian presidency.

The team that traveled on a military aircraft is made up of doctors and volunteer nurses specializing in resuscitation, anesthesia and biosafety.

They were seen off on their departure from Tunis by senior Tunisian officials, including the Ministers of Defense, Imed Hazgui, and Foreign Affairs, Noureddine Erray, the head of the presidential cabinet, Nadia Akacha, and the Italian Ambassador to Tunisia, Lorenzo Fanara.
