Gaborone, Botswana, April 12 (Infosplusgabon) - Botswana’s Presidency has warned the country’s law enforcers not abuse people during the 28-day lockdown, as the nation fights COVID-19 pandemic.

Batlhalefi Leagajang, Press Secretary to the President, on Saturday said government will continue to uphold the rule of law and respect for human rights and those who violate them will face the full might of the law.

The warning comes after pictures of two people allegedly assaulted by the police circulated on social media, on day eight of the lockdown.

“The Police Commissioner has been instructed to investigate this as a matter of urgency and has already dispatched a team to investigate,” said Leagajang.

He said once investigations are complete the police officers responsible will face stern action, as well as administrative sanctions.

According to Leagajang, the President has condemned the assaults and assured the nation that the conduct does not represent the country’s law enforcement agencies as well as his government.
