Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, April 11 (Infosplusgabon) – Tanzania on Friday reported two coronavirus-related deaths as confirmed cases in the East African nation rose to 32 after nine people tested positive for Covid-19.

According to a statement issued by the  Ministry of Health, the two passed away in  Dar es Salaam early Friday, taking to three the death toll since the pandemic was first reported in the country on 16 March 2020.

The deceased include a 51-year-old Tanzanian resident of Dar es Salaam who  tested positive for the deadly virus on Wednesday. Another death was that of a 57-year-old Tanzanian, also a resident of Dar es Salaam, whose condition was also confirmed earlier the same day.

The ministry reported five new confirmed cases, all residents of Dar es Salaam, and two in Zanzibar isles.

“Therefore, a total of 32 people have so far been confirmed to have contracted Covid-19 in the country. Out of these, five have recovered and 24 others are going on well with treatment,” said the statement signed by Health minister Ummy Mwalimu.

Once again, she reminded the public to take precautionary measures to prevent themselves from contracting coronavirus.

In another development, the minister has warned that Tanzania could soon begin to experience local transmission of Covid-19 after initially dealing with imported infections.

‘The disease has been imported from outside, but yesterday and last week we  find infections within the country. Within a few days it might go to community transmission,” she told religious leaders in Dar es Salaam.

She added: “This means we are likely to get a patient who may not know where the infection has come from.”

The minister reminded religious leaders to ensure that they conduct worship in a systematic and risk-free environment to protect themselves against the killer virus.
