Brazzaville, Congo, April 11 (Infosplusgabon) - Congo's Interior and Decentralization minister, Raymond Zéphirin Mboulou, on Thursday issued a ministerial decree reducing the working days of state markets from five to three days weekly, specifying that the markets will no longer open as Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The decree, which repeals the measures taken by the government regarding the operation of markets during the period of coronavirus health crisis, underlined that Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays are reserved for maintenance and disinfection.

In addition, new measures have also been taken to enforce social distancing on Total Market, the largest in the Congolese capital.

Since April 9, a gap of one meter is recommended between sellers and heads of market committees will have to ensure compliance with these barrier measures to counter the coronavirus pandemic.

The new measures should help the country to counter the spread of the coronavirus in markets which are frequented by many people, in spite of the cases of increasing infection.
