13th edition of Creole International Festival opens in Mauritius

Labourdonnais, Mauritius, November 17 (Infosplusgabon) - The 13th edition of the Creole International Film Festival was launched on Friday night at Labourdonnais Castle, Mapou, in northern Mauritius.

 

 

Twenty Mauritian artists will participate in the festival to introduce foreigners to the richness of the Creole language.

 

During the festival, Mauritians, as well as the tourists, will listen to songs with various instruments that highlight the cultural mix of the country.

 

According to the Minister of Tourism, Anil Gayan, "this festival is a celebration of joy that highlights our common heritage based on Creole".

 

"Mauritius is a unique country where people have come from all over the world; some have come to make a living, but everyone has had the vision to build a better future in Mauritius," he said.

 

Gayan also said that the festival reflects the present diversity at the 50th independence of anniversary.

 

A culinary festival is also part of the programme to highlight the richness of Mauritian cuisine and islands.

 

This festival will see the participation of a Brazilian group of 20 artistes, 35 from Seychelles, a delegation from Rodrigues, 15 from Egypt, a delegation from India and many Mauritians.

 

The festival will end on 25 November with a grand carnival that will host cultural troupes from Brazil, Seychelles, Egypt and India.
