Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, July 17 (Infosplusgabon) - A team from the Sahel Alliance Secretariat, led by Jean-Marc Gravellini, Head of the Sahel Alliance Coordination Unit, will visit the African Development Bank (AfDB) headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, from 18 to 19 July, 2018.

Launched on 13 July 2017 by France and Germany, in partnership with the European Union (EU), the AfDB, the World Bank (WB) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Sahel Alliance aims to achieve more development results in the G5 Sahel countries - Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger.

The mission will include interviews with Senior Vice President of the AfDB, Charles Boamah, Vice President for Regional Development, Regional Integration and Service Delivery, Khaled Sherif, Vice President Energy, Climate and Green Growth, Amadou Hott, Agriculture and Human and Social Development Vice-President, Jennifer Blanke, and Sibry Tapsoba, Director of the Coordinating Office for States in Transition (RDTS).

A working session is also planned with the directors of the bank from member countries of the Alliance and G5 Sahel.

Bilateral discussions with the Department of Gender, Women and Civil Society, Resource Mobilization and the Human Capital, Youth and Skills Development Department are planned.

The Sahel Alliance is in an operational phase that requires constant dialogue in order to allow its actors involved in the implementation, the G5 Sahel countries and development partners, to better appropriate the objectives.

In this dynamic, the AfDB has intensified dialogue with its partners in the Sahel Alliance to promote synergies for the benefit of operations in the G5 Sahel states.

The challenges of the Sahel Alliance and its modus operandi, the analysis of the Sahel Alliance portfolio, the accountability parameters of the development partners and the G5 Sahel countries will be at the heart of the discussions.

In addition, several aspects of fragility, such as country vulnerability and resilience, food self-sufficiency, sustainable development and food security, the role of gender in Alliance implementation, youth employment as well as the basic services that are water or electricity, will be addressed during the exchanges between the delegation of the Alliance and the Bank.

For Sibry Tapsoba, Director of RDTS, "the accession of Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom aims not only to broaden the synergies of action between development partners in order to accelerate the results of interventions to the benefit of G5 Sahel states but also, and above all, to confirm that development is possible in the Sahel."
